Listening skills- Humor

Good listening skills are essential in working out disagreements in custody and visitation disputes. Often we do not hear what we think we hear and we therefore say and do things that others feel differently about, sometimes in a good way, but often not. A recent, off color joke illustrates the point…..

A young vivacious student nurse gingerly administers an upper body sponge bath to a man hooked to an oxygen machine. "Nurse" the man mumbles, from behind the oxygen mask, "Are my testicles black?"

Embarrassed, the young woman replies, "I don’t know, sir I’m only here to wash your upper body and feet."

He struggles to ask again, with some agitation in his garbled cries, "Nurse! are my testicles black?"

Concerned that he may elevate his vitals from worry about his testicles, she overcomes her embarrassment and sheepishly pulls back the covers.

She raises his gown, holds his penis in one hand and his testicles in the other, lifting and moving them around. Then, she takes a close look and says, "There’s nothing wrong with them, Sir."

The man warmly smiles at her as he pulls off his oxygen mask and says very slowly, "Thank you very much. That was wonderful, but, listen very, very closely……Are -My - Test -Results- Back?"
